COMPONENT SOURCING / CHINA
Electronic Component Sourcing in China
China is one of the world's largest electronics manufacturing and supply ecosystems. For international buyers, useful sourcing starts with a precise requirement — not simply a request for “the best price.”
Start with the exact component requirement
Provide the manufacturer, complete manufacturer part number (MPN), required quantity and delivery requirement. Part-number suffixes can identify package, temperature range, packing method or other important specifications, so the complete MPN matters.
For BOM sourcing, keeping manufacturer names, quantities and acceptable alternatives clearly separated makes supplier quotations easier to compare.
Price and claimed stock are not enough
A quotation does not by itself establish that a component meets the buyer's requirements. Depending on the application and order, relevant factors can include:
- manufacturer and exact MPN;
- quantity and packaging;
- date code and lot code requirements;
- origin and supplier traceability;
- physical condition and labeling;
- supporting documentation;
- inspection or testing requirements.
Why Shenzhen matters for China sourcing
Shenzhen combines manufacturers, authorized and independent distribution channels, traders, electronics markets, logistics providers and technical services in one large electronics ecosystem.
Local sourcing can be particularly useful when a component is hard to find, obsolete or EOL, normal distribution channels show no stock, or quoted lead times do not meet the project requirement.
Supplier qualification still matters
China sourcing should not mean treating every available quotation as equivalent. Supplier identity, history, documentation and the requirements of the specific order need to be considered before purchasing.
Being in Shenzhen makes it easier to communicate with local suppliers, compare sourcing channels and investigate supply options, but it does not replace appropriate qualification or inspection.
What to include in an RFQ
A useful RFQ normally includes the exact MPN, manufacturer if known, quantity, required delivery date and destination. If relevant, also specify date-code restrictions, target price, packaging, traceability, inspection or testing requirements and whether alternatives are acceptable.
